Membrane Housings

Membrane housings are nothing but the Pressure vessels which are made up of glass wool & combined with the various type of resin & hardener mixture.  Resin & Hardner mixing ratio is depend upon the type of hardener & Resin u are using.

For Example- For Epoxy type Resin & Hardener(Preparation of 1kg of Mixture) 0.52kg hardener & 0.48kg used respectively. Selection of type of glass is also important for the manufacturing, above mixing ration is for Type "E" glass.

These vessels are manufactured by using winding process. winding is nothing but glass wool already mixed with the resin are rolled around the mandrel of various size with particular angle varying from 35-45 degree. Providing the eye lid angle is vary much important for the strength of the vessels. These membrane housings are ranging from 150Psi to 1800Psi as per ASME guide line. based on the PSI various type of mats to be use on the bell area to provide the strength.

Above wound mandrels are made to cure at 300 degree Fahrenheit, depend upon the model  & Design calculations at different interval of time.

There are basically two type of membrane housing are seen around the world
1)End entry.
2)Side Ported entry.
There are various types of defects can be seen in the Pressure vessel or Membrane housing.

Minor Defects
1)Pitting- Rough Surface.
2)Dry Mat- Dry fibers & Exposed Mat.
3)Fussiness

Major Defects
1)Bell Crack
2)Body crack etc.

For Defect related will discuss in Next blog.
